Privacy Policy
Villarreal PLLC (d/b/a Alumbra Legal) · Effective Date: May 22, 2026
Villarreal PLLC, a North Carolina professional limited liability company doing business as Alumbra Legal ("we," "us," "our," or the "Firm"), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in connection with our website at alumbralegal.com and related pages (the "Site").
This Policy applies to information collected through the Site from website visitors. It does not govern information you provide to us after an attorney-client relationship is formed; that information is governed by your written engagement agreement and by the protections described in Section 3.
By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information you provide to us
If you choose to contact the Firm by email at an address shown on the Site, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message. Please do not submit sensitive, confidential, or privileged information through the Site. As explained in our Website Terms of Use, contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship, and information you submit before a relationship is formed is not confidential or privileged.
b. Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information may be collected automatically through your browser or device, which may include your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, referring and exit pages, pages viewed, and the dates and times of access. This information helps us operate, secure, and improve the Site.
c. Cookies
The Site uses only strictly necessary cookies (small data files stored on your device that are required for the Site to function and to be served securely). The Site does not use analytics cookies or advertising or tracking cookies. You can usually set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are sent; if you disable strictly necessary cookies, some parts of the Site may not function properly.
d. Information from other sources
We may receive limited information about you from third parties, such as our website host, in connection with the services they provide to us.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to your inquiries and communicate with you;
- Evaluate and, where appropriate, follow up on potential engagements, including performing conflict-of-interest checks;
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site;
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, and misuse of the Site; and
- Comply with legal obligations and applicable rules of professional conduct, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes.
3. Attorney-Client Relationship and Confidentiality
Using the Site or sending an email does not create an attorney-client relationship. Such a relationship is formed only after the Firm completes a conflict-of-interest review, agrees in writing to represent you, and you sign a written engagement agreement.
Information you submit before an attorney-client relationship is established is not confidential and is not protected by the attorney-client privilege. Once an attorney-client relationship is established, communications with the Firm for the purpose of legal advice are generally protected by the attorney-client privilege and the Firm's ethical duty of confidentiality. Those protections are separate from, and in addition to, this Privacy Policy, and are governed by your engagement agreement and applicable rules of professional conduct.
4. How We Disclose Information
We disclose personal information only as described below:
- Service providers. We share information with vendors that perform services for us, such as website hosting and email delivery, who are permitted to use the information only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, court order, or legal process, or where we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with legal obligations, enforce our agreements, protect the rights, property, or safety of the Firm or others, or respond to a government request.
- Business changes. If the Firm is involved in a merger, reorganization, or transfer of all or part of its practice, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, consistent with applicable rules of professional conduct.
- With your direction. We may disclose information at your request or with your consent.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including to respond to inquiries, maintain records of conflict-of-interest checks, comply with our legal and professional-responsibility obligations, and resolve disputes. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and the reason we hold it.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information collected through the Site. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Any transmission of information to us through the Site is at your own risk.
7. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age required by applicable law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Third-Party Websites
The Site may link to third-party websites and services that we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can choose not to provide information through the Site, although that may limit our ability to respond to you. Most browsers let you manage or disable cookies through their settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws, such as the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information, or to obtain a copy of it. To make a request, contact us at info@alumbralegal.com. We will respond as required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
